This week I am joining the Catherine Cardigan tour! My girls love to layer up with cardigans so I am always looking for good cardigan patterns. There are a couple I love and now I am adding one more to my go-to list!
The Catherine Cardigan is the perfect addition to your girl(s)' wardrobe. It is suitable for spring, summer and autumn!
Pattern:
Catherine Cardigan pattern by Sewpony. the pattern was named after Suz's (the pattern designer) mom. Read more about this story here.
Fabric:
It was a no-brainer that NOSH knits were the *perfect* knits for this pattern. I used:
- Main: Stripe Loopback sweatshirt, Maple sugar-Vanilla colorway
- Collar, bow and sleeve bands: 1x1 rib knit, fudge color
Sewing & pattern details:
The Catherine button up cardigan is designed to be a fitted cardigan and it offers the following options:
- pussy bow or short bow
- long sleeves, 3/4 sleeves, short sleeves
- thin or deep cuff
- sizes 12mo - 12Y.
I have opted for a Summer version, with short sleeves and only one snap, instead of the buttons closure.
The back yoke makes it perfect for some color blocking fun. I have opted to use the sweatshirt knit on the reverse side. So, no that is not a mistake it was intentional. I love it, but let's hope the loops don't get pulled with washes and use... I once used the reverse side of French Terry as main, because the reverse side was striped and so much cooler than the main side which was a plain color, but it got lots of pulled threads... I thought to myself it was my first and last time using the reverse side of French Terry as main... But, never say never and here I go again. Sometimes we learn from our previous mistakes and...sometimes we don't, haha!
Things I changed: I understitched the collar, because I always understitch in all the right places even when it is not recommended. Next time I will also make the hem differently, since I prefer a cleaner finish in the front corners (where the front placket bands join the hem).

It's lovely Sara thank you!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! (Sweater and daughter!) Please explain how you make a "cleaner finish in the front corners". I am working on finishes, and the front corners do look tricky!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful fabric combination - you are always SO good at that! I also like how you changed the yoke for a different texture on the back.
