Hi! Today I am showcasing new coordinating knit outfits I made for my girls as part of the Thread Faction SS2016 tour.
Do you know Thread Faction patterns? (formerly Hatchlings patterns)
It's a pattern company owned by the amazingly talented Liz Elliott, who lives in Australia. Believe me, you want to know these patterns! I am so (so!) impressed by their overall quality!
Thread Faction just launched a new pattern collection. The Spring/Summer 2016 collection presents several knit girls patterns. (But you can hack a few of them into boys patterns! Just check what my friend Diana did here. Super cute, right?)
There's a mix of 7 patterns that make up for the perfect beach/Summer styles: shorts, romper, circle skirt dress, racer back tank & dress, boxy top, etc. They are all super trendy and easy to make! And the best part: Liz makes use of all the proper techniques for sewing with knits. These patterns will take you to the next level on your sewing skills!
Pattern: #108 (half circle skirt dress), by Thread Faction.
Fabric:
Suggested fabrics are knits with a moderate amount of stretch (25% or more in the crosswise direction), which includes light to medium weight jersey or interlock. I used a giraffe jersey knit in mustard.
Details:
This pattern is available in sizes 2 to 10. It's a simple and perfect design!
It's a girls round neck dolman sleeve dress with a half circle skirt OR you can make it as a peplum top! The skirt has the twirl factor that every girl loves.
This pattern is suitable for beginners.
Pattern: #110 (romper), by Thread Faction.
Fabric:
Recommend fabrics are stretch knits with a moderate amount of stretch (25% or more in the crosswise direction). I used a zebra jersey knit in dark green and a black waffle double knit.
Details:
This pattern is also available in sizes 2 to 10. There is something about romperswith a short's length that I love and this pattern is no exception. It features a back opening and flutter sleeves for an added dose of cuteness!
I made a small hack on this one. The original pattern closes at the back with an elastic loop + button but I have opted to make a tie closure. I used the width of fabric to cut a 1'' binding strip. I notched the center (width wise) of it and matched it to the front center (which I also notched by folding the front piece along the center). I then matched both notches and stitched the binding all around the neckline, leaving the ties at the back. I actually think they are just a bit too long so I may snip them a bit.
This pattern is suitable for confident beginners or intermediate sewists since it includes knit binding, ruffles stabilized with elastic and an elastic waistband.
Both of these knits are from the same jersey collection. My local fabric store sells the remnants from a few local fabric mills that make fabric and knits for some well known RTW brands (like Zara). Since these brands have several seasonal collections I always find new fabrics every month on a limited availability. And once they're gone, they're gone...
I was able to get a few meters of both of these prints several months ago and I kept them in the vault. (You know the vault, that place where you hide your most precious fabrics, the ones you swear you'll only use on the.perfect.projects.)
Well, after seeing what my friend Inês did with the giraffe knit (she is a knit ninja!) I took the plunge and grab them from the vault! (That's what friends are for, right?)

DeleteBoth styles are SO cute but I'm kind of obsessed with that romper. Ans the photos....gah, so so good!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mie! That romper... it was love at first sight when I first saw it on the website!
DeleteAnd you know a funny fact? I was thinking about you all the time I was sewing these two patterns. You love to sew with knits and I was thinking the whole time how you would enjoy sewing these patterns. The construction is very good!
I love the dress. Adorable. I also followed Made By Sarah on Instagram although the rafflecopter didn't show it 😉
ReplyDeleteThanks Becky! Yeah, rafflecopter was doing something funny to my Instagram link, it seems it doesn't like underscores... :) I changed my handle on IG and it is all good now. Thanks for letting me know!

These are adorable! I'd go with that racerback dress (#107)
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of your fabric store!!
Thanks Michelle!
DeleteI think the racerback dress is going to be my next making from this collection! Love it!
Oh my fabric store... what can I say? Since they get new fabrics each week it's usually a hit-and-miss. Sometimes I go there and I found nothing I like. But other days I leave with bags full of precious treasures! And that's the reason why I am going to file for bankruptcy one day... :) :) :D
I'd pick #108. My girls love to twirl!
