The Top Knot Dress & Romper

Today I am joining the Top Knot Tour! It is all about the Top Knot Romper, Dress & Tunic, a pattern by the talented Gabriela of Chalk & Notch. Don't miss all the versions made for this tour (a.m.a.z.i.n.g) and there are some goodies for you at the end of this post!

Top: cotton shirting.
Shorts: chambray.

Details:
This pattern offers several options: dress, romper or tunic; two dress lengths (knee and maxi), two romper lengths (shorts and pants); two sleeve options (cuff or long).
The instructions are some of the most thorough and complete I have ever seen (and you know I have seen a lot!). It even includes several pages of instructions on how to blend sizes and custom adjustments! It's a complete sewing lesson.
The Top Knot is available in sizes 18/24 months to 12 years and is labeled as Intermediate.

Pattern hack:

I have made two versions (well, one and 2/3 actually...) of the Top Knot Dress, Romper & Tunic, one for each of my girls. I had signed up for the "Sisters Style" day for this tour (which was yesterday) but I had to change dates for today's theme "Pattern Hack" because I wasn't able to finish one of the outfits on time. You may have seen a sneak peek on Instagram. In two words: tencel and cool funky patches. (okay, I know that's more than two. :)  ) I can't wait to finish it!

So, about this outfit. I hacked the pattern by transforming the romper into separates: top and shorts, and modifying them a bit.

The top. I used a fun dotted cotton shirting with ice cream/ citrus colors. I purchased it last year to make something inspired by Stylo 04, which theme was High Frutose. (You can see this amazing sewing-inspo e-magazine HERE.) I love (love!) Stylo and I can't wait for a new issue!! (Celina and Jessica, I am hoping it will happen any time soon! ;) ) 
Modifications made: I used snaps instead of buttons and added an hem band with ties. 

The shorts. I would chambray-fy everything if I could. :) Chambray is such a great fabric to work with and I haven't seen a single outfit made with it that I didn't liked. 
Modifications made: I skipped the cuffs and pockets. I wanted to keep them simple and a bit flared.
