The Mini Hudson Pant

Hey! How's 2015 so far? We are still on the Holiday-party mood since we have a birthday today! This little girl is turning 6 years-old. Does anyone know how to stop her from growing up? :)

A few months ago I kept seeing all these women Hudson pants all over and I kept thinking how cool they would look in a kids size. Well, apparently Kelli has some super powers because she read my mind and just released last month the mini version of the Hudson pants. :)

Once I was lucky to get on the Mini Hudson blog tour (Thank you Kelli!) I started to picture a dozen of cool versions of these... It was hard to decide which one(s) to make and I ended up making these two versions: one sporty-hipster boy's version and a girly girl version. :)

Pattern: Mini Hudson pant, pattern by True Bias.

Fabric:
  • Boy look: grey french terry (main) + green interlock (pocket lining).
  • Girl look: denim blue floral jacquard knit.

Details:
The mini Hudson pants are a skinny sweat pant pattern, with an elastic waistband and a drawstring (they work just fine without it too - I skipped it and they are still great). They have two size options - full length pant and mid calf length - and feature side pockets and cuffs.
They are a bit roomy around the hips and then they taper into a skinny leg which makes them look really cool and trendy.
This pattern is available in sizes 2T to 10. Recommend fabrics are medium weight knits, such as cotton lycra, french terry, ponte and sweatshirt knit.
The instructions are great and it is a fairly easy and quick sew (if you skip the drawstring and the elastic top stitching like I did).

The boy look was complemented with a yellow sweatshirt from Mayoral (a Spanish RTW kids clothes brand)  and an handmade slouchy beanie, a free pattern by Heidi & Finn.

For the girl look I made a camper cowl, a free pattern by Jennuine Design, out of the same jaquard knit (and a pink jersey on the inside) and decided to go with her leather jacket from Tiffosi (a Portuguese RTW kids clothes brand).

This patten is super versatile and I love that in a pattern. Kelli as a few different tutorials on her blog (True Bias) on how to make different looks.
You can play with different knit prints and colors. You can make contrasting cuffs and/or pockets and/or waistband. You can play with the pocket detail, by using a different color or by adding piping as I did in this girl's version.
See some more inspiration and ideas hereThe possibilities are endless!

I love them - they do too! - and now all I want is to make a ton of these. The Mini Hudson look amazing and are super comfortable!

I may have to sew some for me too since there is a women pattern for these too.

Now go have a look at all the great versions being made for this tour. I am touring today along with my dear friend Monica from Adirondack Inspired. And tomorrow two of my favorite sewing bloggers are touring too. I am glad I was first because I know they will be amazing and I would be kind of embarrassed to post after them both. :)

Can you spot the pre-teen look on his face? :)

These two. <3 Having just 15 months between them makes them look like and interact with each other like if they were twins.

Happy sewing!

  7. Love these so much and great surprise to see my Camper Cowl mentioned - I didn't recognize it until I read the end. The French terry looks super comfy and I love how ladylike the tone on tone floral pair look.
