The Carnival Jacket - for One Thimble issue 9

Hey! Today I am joining the One Thimble tour with the Carnival Jacket, a pattern by Peach Patterns for issue #9 of One Thimble, a digital sewing magazine based in Australia.

In this issue of One Thimble you will find:

  • 14 PDF patterns for kids clothes, a clutch, FMA, a head wrap, softies, felt toys and fabric games,
  • 27 articles, tutorials and interviews such as: How to insert an invisible zipper, How to get perfect points when sewing Half Square Triangles, How to make an I-spy bag, How to make a velcro back bow tie and toy tutu, How to make a Hoop Tent, How to make an insulated lunch bag, How to fussy cut, How to get your Sewjo back, How to photograph flatlays, Trending fabrics and much more!

Lots of great sewing content!! And you can read more about it and see all the patterns included here

Pattern details

This jacket comes with four great options: basic, yoke + round front, a blouson or as a peplum. It is unlined and has no closures. There are some facings on the neckline and front center sides. It can be embellished with optional tabs, which are very cute!

This pattern is available in sizes 3 to 12 and is classified as Advanced Beginner.

I finished the center front facings's edges with bias binding (instead of an overlock or zig zag stitching showing). I have also skipped the tabs and opted for a single button closure.

The sleeves are sewn on the flat and there are notches to help you place them on the right place! The hardest step is sewing the neck band along with the facings, but if you give it some thought you can do it! I am not 100% happy with mine (totally my fault though, nothing to do with the pattern)...

Fabric

I used a heart birdseye piqué cotton that I bought last year at my local fabric store (Feira dos Tecidos). I got it from the remnant bin at 4.95€ for 1 meter (about $5.50). I used about half of it for this jacket so you will see more of this fabric later on!

I was going to use this fabric on a dress for the Alice in Wonderland series I hosted some months ago. Did you missed it? Here's the main post with links to everyone's makings. So many inspiration there!

I already had the chance to share some makings from One Thimble previous issues and just in case you missed here they are:
- the Jackalope tee and the Fat Red Bird Fedora hat (issue #8), here
- the Jukebox dress (issue #7), here
- the Multi-Apron (issue #6), here
- the Moku shorts (issue #5), here.

You can find One Thimble over here! It is totally worth it!

Here is the blog line up for this tour! Make sure to stop by every day on these blogs to get a glimpse of all the patterns and content you can find on this issue of One Thimble!

She loved this outfit!

The dress is from Agatha Ruíz de La Prada, a Spanish fashion designer known by her exuberant use of bright and bold colors. It's made from a bright cobalt blue (love this color!) neoprene with hearts embossed at the front. I think it was the perfect match to this jacket!! :)

Before you leave, take a look at all the fun happening this week with the 1st Japanese Sewing Week! There is a giveaway and a link-up for you to link any making you did using Japanese patterns.

Happy sewing!
