Hi! I did some boy sewing! Yay! And did you know that bananas are the new pineapples? :)
This (not-so) little guy here loves bananas and Minions - we went to see the new movie a couple of weeks ago, so that might have had some influence here on my fabric choice... :)
Today I am joining the One Thimble Issue 8 blog tour (there's a giveaway at the end!). One Thimble is a digital sewing magazine released quarterly full of useful articles, sewing tips, DIY projects and sewing patterns, suitable for all levels of sewing (beginner to intermediate).
I had the honor to participate in the previous tours - you can see my Issue 5, Issue 6, Issue 7 posts - and I keep jumping at the opportunity to be on the tour because I do think this is an amazing magazine. Totally worth the money, check the sneak peek!
This issue comes with 12 PDF sewing patterns - clothes, accessories, and even a quilt - plus some other tutorials! And to top it all there are dozens of articles that cover relevant issues for the crafty/sewing community and for home-based entrepreneurs, like how to create quality pins for Pinterest and how to make a stylized photo shoot to show off your handmade clothes.
I was so excited with all the projects that I had a hard time choosing which ones to pick first. I ended up making something for this little guy here.
Patterns:
The Jackalope Tee, pattern by Momma Quail.
The Fat Red Bird Fedora Hat, pattern by Fat Red Bird Designs.
Fabric:
Jackalope tee: yellow banana print cotton jersey and a black cotton jersey.
Fedora hat: black fine wale corduroy for the exterior and a B&W striped quilting cotton for the inside.
Details:
The Jackalope tee can be made in a mix of woven and knit or 100% in knits, I have opted to use two knits.
I really love the originality on this pattern with those side panels and sleeve panels. It allows for great print combos and color blocking.
All the pattern pieces match and the instructions are clear and easy to follow.
The fedora hat is actually a quick sew, I have to say I was surprised. I mean, it is not something you make in 15 minutes, but it was actually quicker than I thought it would be, it took me less than one hour. And I love how it turned out! I am completely in love with this pattern. I think I will be sewing lots of fedora hats now for the family and friends - for both kids and adults! Oh yes, an adult size is included on this pattern!
This pattern is very well done, with great techniques. You know I am not a topstitcher by heart but in this case I love all the topstitching details - makes it look very professional. The instructions are amazing, with lots of great tips all over, so it is a super easy project!
This issue of One Thimble includes:
- 12 PDF sewing patterns
- 6 tutorials
- Sewing tips/techniques (how to use quilting rulers, making bias tape and topsticthing) and a sewing terms glossary
- Articles about how to teach kids to sew
- Articles for small business owners (bookwork, photography, etc)
- General trends and inspiration (shopping guides, fabric, interviews)
If you are already starting to think about Christmas gifts (wait, did I just said Christmas?!) there are a lot of great gifts here!
All these projects are easy and suitable for the beginner sewist. Most require a sewing machine, but a couple require hand sewing - perfect for those long car trips or to sew in the evening while watching TV.
One Thimble is available here! Go get your copy or buy the patterns separately.
