Hey! How was the weekend? We are having a beautiful Spring weather around here. I have seen some people wearing short sleeves already, so that's a sign that Spring is really here. :)
Every time I get an email from my blogging friend Olu - from Needle and Ted - two things happen: I have a good laugh (she has the best sense of humor) and I know I will be in trouble... :) She always comes up with these fun pattern tours, competitions and the sort, for Madeit patterns, and I am always ready to jump into whatever it is because I just love Anna's patterns.
So, today I am joining the Just Add Detail challenge!
This friendly competition is all about grabbing the Ziggy top pattern - an oversized box kids top - and adding some detail to it or flip it around and make something completely different. :)
When I was sketching a few ideas - I won't show you my sketches because they are no good than my 3 year-old's drawings I can tell you - they were all girly Ziggy tops, with some sort of flounce and frills, of course. And then I thought I should make a boy's Ziggy, something that no one is expecting since (you all know) I sew 90% for my girls and 1% for my son (the other 9% would be some self care sewing), because he keeps asking me to make him something...
Well, I am glad I did it! He said the most awesome thing a sewing blogger's kid can say - "Have you made this? Wow! It is so well made it looks like store bought!" He has made my day. Heck, my week!
Of course he doesn't notice the small fail over the pocket's corner... or that the bottom blue panels - front and back - don't perfectly match on the side seam, but hey, let's not tell him, okay. :)
What I did:
- a color block version
- a "secret" pocket under the bottom panel
- grey french terry (a leftover from his Mini Hudson pants)
- red and blue interlock
You can see all the cool Ziggy versions made for this friendly competition on these amazing blogs:
