An Elephant for Baby T. - his first mama-made Christmas gift!

The best and most beautiful season of the year is just around the corner! (I just love, love the holiday season!) If you are anything like me your sewing machine will be working full steam the week before Christmas in order to have all those handmade gifts made... Well, this year because of baby #4 I thought I'd best start (way) earlier with my Christmas sewing (because everything takes me longer (much longer) to get done) and the thing is: I am already ahead on my gifting list! (Yay!!)

When Virginia asked me to join this year's edition of Gingercake Patterns Holiday Gifts I immediately said yes! Sewing for a blog series AND tackling my handmade gifts list all at once? Yes, please!

I have little time to sew these days, always juggling to squeeze in a few minutes of sewing here and there, so every minute I get to sew is precious and needs to be very focused.

Virginia is the face (the brain and the hands) behind Gingercake Patterns. You really should have a look at her patterns because they all make great gifts!

I was undecided on what to make (because in all honesty I just wanted to make all the patterns) but my heart leaned towards Lucky the Elephant. This lovely little creature is going to be baby T's first mama-made Christmas gift! <3

Pattern:
Lucky the Elephant, by Gingercake Patterns.

Fabric:
Quilting cotton from my stash:

  • star print (unknown designer/brand)
  • ears and striped back ears are from the Alfie & Bettie collection by Maude Asbury for Blend Fabrics (2013).

Details:
This pattern is actually a pillow pattern (10" tall and 15" wide), but I wanted to make it a soft toy for my sweet baby so I printed it at 75%. It worked great!

I was able to fussy cut a letter "T" to make one of the ears. How cool is that as a personalized gift for baby T?

I added a few t-shirt yarn strings to the back, to add something fun for baby hands. And, I also put a small cat toy rattle ball inside to add some noise. It turned out the perfect baby soft toy!

I had already made a few things using Gingercake Patterns and projects from Virginia's book "Sewing to Sell" (read my book review here), so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. The instructions are thorough and full of useful tips.

Baby T loves is Elephant toy! I know I said it was a Christmas gift but... I couldn't wait to show it to him (yes, I know he is just 5 weeks old, haha). I will wrap it up now and put it under the Christmas tree. I am sure he won't remember he already saw it. :)
