Sew-alongs for Woman clothing!

Janeiro parece ser o mês das séries e sew-alongs de roupa para criança! (Já falei de alguns nesta publicação.)

Comecei a perguntar-me se não haveriam séries e/ou sew-alongs para roupa de mulher... Pesquisei e não encontrei quase nada, mas continuei a procurar e acabei por encontrar vários nos últimos dias - completamente por acaso! 


January seems to be THE month for children's clothing sewing challenges, series and sew-alongs! (I have listed quite a few here.)

I wondered if there were any for woman's clothing... I searched the internet and I have only found Project Sewn (posted about it here). Nevertheless, in the last few days I have found several sew-alongs and series rearding woman's clothing!

The Laced Winter Wonderland cape

My winter wonderland is all about... snow! But unfortunately there is very little snow in my Country and none were I live (actually it only snowed two times were I live in my whole life... sad thing, isn't it?).

So, I can´t have snow but I can do something snow colored - white! And I can't have snowflakes but I can have small flowers print and lace - they remind me somehow of beautiful snowflakes!

This is the Laced Winter Wonderland cape!

This month is a busy one... Lots of fun sewing activities going on, series, challenges, sew-alongs... (as I posted here)
Honestly I want to join every single one of them! If only there were 48 hours in a day... 

It came to my mind... What if... I can combine two of them? Sew something that could enter two of those sewing challenges? Project Run & Play - week 1, theme Winter Wonderland (going on here) + the wonderful Snowflakes & Lace sewing series (here).

This is a reversible cape with lace edge and a vintage button brooch.

I used a snow white wool fabric and a cotton lawn print (white flowers on black background).

The lace on the hood is black and is about 1 cm (3/8'') wide and the lace in the bottom is about 2 cm wide.

The cape closes with a velcro tab, but I think I will make a buttonhole instead - it will last longer!

The pattern is Maisie Cape from My Childhood Treasures (an online shop at Etsy). I bought it a few years ago but I never used it (I wonder if this happens just to me...). I have to say it is a simple perfect project for beginners. The original pattern doesn't have any lace but I just felt that I had to add it - doesn't it look sweet?

When I finished the cape I immediately thought "Humm... this closing tab needs something..." so I made this brooch with black and white lace and a vintage button from my stash - I love (LOVE) buttons!

My "Snow White Riding Hood" is very happy with her cape. 
[I have to confess that sometimes I envy my kids - their wardrobe is better than mine! I may just sew one of this for myself...]

January challenges and sew-alongs!

December has been a busy sewing month, right? All those handmade Christmas gifts and new outfits for the kids... Now we will just sit back and have a sewing break in January. Oh no we won't! Dezembro foi um mês atarefado, certo? A máquina de costura esteve sempre a fumegar, com os presentes para dar, as encomendas, a fatiota nova dos filhos... Finalmente chegou Janeiro, e agora podemos reclinar-nos calmamente com uma chávena de chá na mão e ter umas férias de costura. Ou, não?! Vejam tudo o que vai acontecer este mês: sew-alongs, séries, desafios, pattern tours... Parece que afinal, a máquina de costura não vai ter descanso! 

Será que este mês, e só este  mês, os dias podem ter 48 horas? Por favor?...

Kids Clothes Week - Winter 2014

E mesmo antes de terminar 2013 foi anunciada a próxima edição da Kids Clothes Week!

Quando: 27 Janeiro - 3 Fevereiro 2014.

Onde: aqui!

O quê: Costurar roupas para as nossas crianças (filhos, sobrinhos, netos,...) durante pelo menos uma hora por dia durante esta semana!

Está na hora de começar a planear!
O meu conselho é: previamente a esta semana, escolher já os moldes a utilizar e prepará-los! Assim, podemos começar logo a costurar no primeiro dia da semana!









KCW's new season has been announced! 

When: Jan. 27th - Feb. 3rd

Where: here!

What: Sew for one hour (at least) every day of the week for your kids (or nephews or grandkids).

It is time to start planning! 
My advice is: prior to this week choose the patterns, print them and assemble them. It will allow you to actually start sewing on the first day of the week!

Take One Dress sew-along

Gosto muito de sew-alongs!
Por um lado, por causa do desafio (gosto de um bom desafio!), por outro lado por causa de toda a amizade que se gera entre bloggers e costureiras.

Há um novo sew-along organizado pela Victoria do As It Seams, sobre vestidos! Chama-se "Take One Dress".
Vai decorrer durante 6 meses (a partir de Janeiro), sendo que na primeira segunda-feira de cada mês vai ser revelado o vestido criado por uma convidada (uma delas será a portuguesa e talentosa Marta de DoGuincho!).

I just love sew-alongs! On one hand because I love challenges and on the other hand because of all the blogging-sewing friendships and inspiration.

There is a new sew-along hosted by Victoria from As It Seams and it is all about dresses - Take One Dress!

Alerta de sew-along!

Para quem conhece a talentosa Melly Sews (da Blank Slate patterns), vai haver um sew-along do seu vestido Amaryllis! (E para quem não conhece, bem..  deviam!)

É um vestido muito bonito. E tenho a certeza que a minha filha do meio ia adorar tê-lo!

Para já não sei se consigo juntar-me ao sew-along, porque tenho outros projectos em mãos e estamos em vésperas de Natal... Mas se não o fizer agora, vou de certeza fazê-lo mais tarde.





Sew-along alert!

For those of you who know the tallented Melly Sews (from Blank Slate patterns), there is going to be a sew-along of her beautiful Amaryllis dress! (And for those who don't, well... you should!)

If you don't own the pattern yet you can find it here! Isn't it a great dress? I know that my middle one would love it!

I probably won't be able to join this sew-along because I joined other sew-alongs and sewing projects and it is almost Christmas, but I will definitely going to sew it later.

Flip this pattern - November 2013

I sew mostly for my two girls. Let's be real: sewing for girls is so much fun! I love to sew skirts and dresses, and play with all the flower prints and lace, trims, and shirring and pleats, oh and piping...


Every time I start a new project my son always asks: Mommy is that for me? Followed by a sad look when the answer is no... (which is always...) So, when I saw November's project for the Flip This Pattern series, I immediatly thought "This is it. I am going to sew for him!". The Hangout hoodie seemed perfect!

I had several ideas for the flipping, such as adding fox ears to the hood or making a dinossaur hood but that seemed too obvious... On the other hand, I didn't want to flip it so much that the original pattern couldn't be recognised...


I flipped the Hangout hoodie pattern in the following:

1) I lined the hood with a fun print (road signs)
2) I added two buttons instead of one (I used the same fabric as the hood)
3) I added a waistband
4) I designed a double pocket - the original kangaroo pocket + top pocket

Fabrics used:
2 different navy blue knits
1 cars cotton print
1 road signs cotton print

Total cost: around 12,5€.

I am working on a tutorial for the double pocket that I will publish here soon, so stay tunned!

São dadas 5 "pistas", ideias ou temas ao convidado do mês que tem de inspirar-se nelas para criar uma peça de vestuário para criança!

Essas pistas podem ser uma cor, um adjectivo, uma música, uma imagem ou foto, um termo de costura, um verbo, uma comida, um provérbio, um filme, um personagem, um cantor...

Todos os meses há 5 novas "pistas" e, no primeiro dia do mês, vai ser revelada a criação do blogger convidado! (Podem ir acompanhando tudo nesta página do blog da Sewpony.)

Eu, que sempre adorei mistérios e códigos para decifrar, estou muito entusiasmada com este desafio!
Não sei ainda quando vou conseguir participar... mas o desafio vai até Julho de 2014, por isso espero até lá conseguir encontrar tempo...

A Sewpony está a promover um sew-along delicioso! O When We Were Young!

A ideia é refazer (costurar) uma roupa igual a uma que tenham tido em criança! (Não é uma ideia tão doce?)





A minha cabeça começou já a lembrar-se de uma série de fatiotas (vestidos e saias, sobretudo) da minha infância. 

Não vou participar, para já, mas entretanto vou vendo o meu albúm de fotografias para ver se decido o modelito a fazer!

It is Skirt Week!

A Adrianna e a Susan do Crafterhours estão a promover um sew-along nestas próximas duas semanas! E tem tudo a ver com SAIAS!

Summer of no pants! (Sew-along)

A Marigold do blog "Hideous! Dreadful! Stinky!" lançou um desafio (um sew-along) novo! 
A ideia é costurarmos 4 saias e/ou vestidos durante estas 4 semanas e este Verão não usarmos calças!

Marigold from "Hideous! Dreadful! Stinky!" blog is hosting a fabulous sew-along!
The participants have to make four skirts and/or dresses during the four weeks of the challenge, and the whole idea is to wear only skirts and dresses until the first day of Autumn.

The sew-along will take place from May 27th to June 21st and you can share your creations here.

A new season of Project Run & Play is here! It is the All Stars!



These are the themes for this season:

Week 1: Inspired by Art---Choose an artist, art movement, or artwork and create a children's look inspired by your choice.

Week 2: The Riley Blake Chevron Week---Create a children's design where a chevron pattern is featured. 

Week 3: It's All in the Details---Choose a favorite detail to showcase in a children's wear design. (Such as piping, embroidery, pin tucks, etc.)

Week 4: Spring Formal Wear---Design a formal look for spring--perhaps and Easter outfit or something suitable for a spring wedding?

It is Skirt Week!

Celebrating Boys!

Tenho que admitir... É muito mais divertido fazer coisas para meninas do que para meninos! 
Agora que sou mãe de um rapaz e de uma menina, (já) só me apetece fazer coisas para ela! Há tantas ideias giras e bonitas por aí! Muitas mais do que para eles...

Mas, para quebrar esta ideia surgiu um novo projecto - o Celebrate the Boy! 



Este projecto é promovido aqui e aqui, e tem como objectivo mostrar que há projectos muito giros e divertidos para rapazes!
